Now that is a 'Right Question' and definitely a 'Should've Asked Question' for many, many golfers.
Remember how we discussed 'Right Answers' versus 'Right Questions' a couple days ago?
Since I mentioned 'Open Your Eyes' and 'Open Your Mind' yesterday, asking 'What Should I Look For In My Game?' logically follows.
I'd say, in making sure you 'Open Your Eyes', look for two main things in your Golf Game:
1 - Honesty and 2 - Simplicity
What are you talking about, Joel?
Here's a story (embarrasing to me and fuuuunnnyyy).
As I drove up Harrison Avenue near
You see, as the old Jackson Browne song, which got a bunch of air-time in that car's 8-track, says - I was 'Runnin' On Empty' - again.
Right after I passed under I-74 headed east, I pushed my head and eyes as close to the driver's-side window as I could. I wanted to get the gas gauge needle to go as far to the right as I could.
It did.
To me.
I felt better.
I relaxed.
About halfway up the hill, I realized.
I lied.
To myself.
There was no more gas in that Plymouth because of where I put my head and eyes. I had just made it seem that way to me.
And I felt better.
What an absolute lie, I had just told...to myself.
I was deceived.
And the kicker? I had believed it!
We often do that to ourselves, golf-wise. We 'deceive' and do not even realize we 'deceived' - nor that we believed the 'lie', also.
I mean this. What is the truth about your Golf Game? I'm sure things seem a certain way to you, but do you really know the 'golf truth' about yourself?
You say to yourself, I can hit this 5-iron 180 yards to that back-left flagstick on this shot.
Now I pose my 'Right Question'...Can you?
'Yes', you say.
'Okay', I say, 'How often?'
'I don't know'.
Do you see the 'lie' you just kinda' told to yourself, and believed?
This may take a few minutes to intellectually digest - I'll wait - so you can 'Open Your Mind' leisurely.
In fact, until tomorrow.
We'll talk more tomorrow, about: Looking for Honesty and Simplicity in your Golf Game as you 'Open Your Eyes'.
Thank You. You'll love this tomorrow.
