Bobby Welch Wins Christmas Closest-To-Pin

Congratulations to Bobby Welch of West Union High School Golf Team.  One of his 3 shots in the Christmas Closest To The Pin Contest ended up only 6'1" away from the hole on #7 at Monterey Beach.  Rick Henthorn of Wyoming got second and Travis Butte of Milan, Indiana got third.  (Taylor C. Suggs was not eligible for a prize.)

Thanks, again for coming out.  I'm glad you enjoyed Darlene's Hot-Mulled Apple Cider and Homemade Cookies.

These were not Bobby's shots, but a different Player practicing his drives on #18 on the Monterey Peninsula.

 

Ohio Amateur Golf Champion - Korey Ward

Korey Ward, whom many of you know, won the Ohio Amateur at NCR Country Club yesterday in grand style, as is his custom.  You can read about his Final Round in a nice story at this link...

Korey effectively knows his Golf Swing and Golf Game with incredible humility and honesty.  These qualities enable him to make alterations quickly.   11 years of hard work with me on the Video - and in many other very unique Learning Environments - have also given him confidence and calmness in any situation.

His humility and honesty are the main qualities that enable him to keep improving year-after-year.  His mom and dad have supported him in every way toward these great character traits.  (I'd even say 'big brother' has helped Korey a bunch, too.)

Cincinnati Junior Golf - Hamilton County Junior Golf Championship Results

The Hamilton County Park District Junior Golf Championship Results for its 2011 Championship can be seen here in these photos.  The Final Round concluded yesterday at Miami Whitewater Forest Golf Course.

 
Taylor Suggs (Boys 14) won the Overall Champion's Trophy for the Boys 13-17.  In addition to Taylor, many other 2011 S.uggs U.niversity of G.uided G.olf S.uccess Junior Golfers finished high and/or had their Best-Ever Tournament Scores.  Jenny Zhang won the Overall Champion's Trophy for the Girls 13-17.

Cincinnati Family Golf Tour - Starts This Sunday at Meadow Links & Golf Academy

This Sunday Morning is the first ‘Family Golf Tour’ Event of 2011.  It happens at Meadow Links & Golf Academy and is a 4-Person Family Scramble, and only costs $40 for the whole team.

This is a fantastic way for you to compete with your Juniors/Parents instead of just watching them…and it really engenders a whole lotta’ humility all throughout the Family (if ya’ know what I mean).

As at each Family Golf Tour Event, I will Video each Competitor’s Swing and e-mail you the Analysis.  I’m proud to say that a S.U.G.G.S. Player won the 2010 Season-Long Points Race; Zane Brownrigg and his Family.  Their Award Plaque is now on display at Meadow Links & Golf Academy.

Golf - A Timeless, Beautiful Description

I just saw this yesterday in a wonderful article by Noted Golf Course Architect, Michael Hudzan about the beauties of our Game.  He designed the course where the U.S. Amateur Golf Tournament will be played this year, Erin Hills.  He is also responsible for the incredibly pragmatic and effective design of Meadow Links & Golf Academy, where I give S.uggs U.niversity of G.uided G.olf S.uccess Lessons.  Cincinnati Golfers are fortunate to have this 'Top 10 Short Course In America' here in Cincinnati at Winton Woods.

These words about our fantastic 'Golf' are absolutely wondrous, and over 100 years old.

GOLF

It is a science—the study of a lifetime, in which

you may exhaust yourself but never your subject.

It is a contest, a duel or a melee, calling for

courage, skill, strategy and self-control.

It is a test of temper, a trial of honor, a revealer

Cincinnati Golf - 'Top 50' Master Kids' Golf Teacher

The US Kids Golf Company has recently named me a 'Top 50 Master Kids Teacher'.  I'm honored and appreciative of this acclaim.  Their company has done a tremendous job over the last 15 years of getting fitted golf equipment into the hands of Junior Golfers in Cincinnati and around the world.

Part of the US Kids Golf process for choosing the 'Top 50 Master Kids Teachers' is to have candidates submit 'Letters Of Recommendation'.  I'm thankful that a large number of Cincinnati Junior Golfers and Parents submitted these letters.  I've also had Junior Golfers from Kentucky and Indiana send in Letters. 

Thank you to each of you who have done this, some of you for many years...as I have won awards from US Kids Golf many times now.

As many of you know, 'your child hits the shots'.  I, Joel, am just the facilitator, though I do try very hard to be the best facilitator possible.  They are responsible for their Golf Game.

I'm honored and proud to help your children enjoy this 'gentleman's game', which is the last best refuge of kindness and sportsmanship in our society.

Thank you again.  Please always feel free to let me know what I can do more, or better, to help your young Cincinnati Junior Golfers.

 

Cincinnati Golf...Success - Caddy For College Scholarship

If you want your child, grandchild, friend or yourself - to get a Full-Ride College Golf Scholarship, read the rest of this story.

I began helping Connor Wakefield with his Golf Game about 3 or 4 years ago.  I just got word from him last night that he has received the Evans Caddy Golf Scholarship to attend Ohio State University.  I 'bout cried.

Connor plans to major in Pre-Med.  He also plans to play a bunch of golf at the Scarlet and Gray Golf Courses that are part of the Ohio State campus and lore.

 
The photo above shows how much Connor's impact position has improved over the last few years.  The best part of his Golf Game, though, is invisible.  It cannot be described with a photo.

His character and thinking are what have improved the most.  An 'admitted perfectionist', Connor has learned to more constructively accept his golf shots that are 'less-than-perfect'...and has developed the neccessary patience as well - about his Game.

Connor proves that there is much more to GOLF...SUCCESS than just playing the Game.

Cincinnati Golf's Master Kids Teacher - US Kids Golf

I've been honored again by the US Kids Golf Company.  They now call me a 'Master Kids Teacher'.  I really appreciate this notoriety.

Many thanks to each of you who continue to put your trust in me as your PGA Master Golf Teaching Professional.  Remember, as I always say, "You hit the shots, I'm just the facilitator." 

Korey Ward - Ohio High School Division I Golf Tournament

   Korey Ward gallantly came up just a few shots short in his effort to win a third straight Ohio High School Division I State Championship yesterday at the Ohio State Scarlet Golf Course.

   This is Korey hitting into #13, one of the many challenging approach shots at Scarlet Golf Course.

 
   This year, for the first time, I had my 13-yr-old son, Taylor, attend with me.  He and Korey have known each other for 10 years, have played together in events and see each other often at Meadow Links & Golf Academy during their Golf Lessons with me.  Korey also had many friends and family members watching him during the 36-hole event.  They enjoyed seeing him play, and we all enjoyed visiting with each other during the Practice Round and two Tournament Days.

   Suffice to say, the chance of any young person winning this event twice in a row is very slim - three consecutive times even slimmer, given today's much more competitive Junior Golf Environment, than when it was previously accomplished in the 50's and 70's.

   Korey has handled this possibility with his typical class and aplomb - never letting it bother him.  He kept his 'nose to the grindstone' - simply focusing on his golf game and letting other people 'talk about the story' the last couple years.

   My son and I, as I'm wont to do after these High School Golf Tournaments, took the scenic and slower Country Roads home last night to Cincinnati's Greenhills, eschewing the speed and blandness of the Interstate.  We spent a great time together eating at Der Dutchman Amish Restaurant in Plain City (as many of you know, I'm kind of a groupie of The Amish).  Taylor and I enjoyed respectfully reflecting on Korey and his manly and mature efforts to garner such a prize over the last 3 days and his last 24 months.

   Korey's greatest strength is invisible - to any person or Video Camera.  Korey plays golf for his own self-satisfaction, which I love.  He is not trying to impress anyone, except himself.  This has produced a sincere honesty with himself and humility that I deeply admire.  His parents, Brad and Sherry, can be enormously and profoundly proud of him, which they are.

   From my family (Darlene and Ellie included) to yours, Korey - 'Great Work'!!! 

Ryder Cup: Sportsmanship Supreme

To see the virtue and sportsmanship of all the Players and Captains of the Ryder Cup teams sure does make me proud of the 'Gentlemanly/Classy Nature' of our great game.

They compete with all their guts, yet say sincere 'Congratulations' when vanquished.

I simply say 'Congratulations' to both teams - and 'Thank You' for your class, which stands in such stark contrast to the attitudes and actions seen in other Professional Sports.

The considerate, honest and thoughtful spirit of all the great gentleman and ladies of our storied game lives on - in you all.

Cincinnati Junior Golf...Success Player From Wooster, Ohio At US Kids World Golf Championship

Ben Cors is a young man I've helped for a few years now.  He lives in Wooster, Ohio.  I see him and his parents about 5 times a year.  He has qualified for the US Kids World Golf Championships in 2009 and 2010 because of his good play in the Cleveland and Akron Local US Kids Tours.
