If you live in the North or Midwest - you may have now played your last round for the year.
Many of the more Avid Players I help continue to improve every year...largely because they have leaned how to use the Winter months to their ADVANTAGE.
I like to impress upon them that I consider there to be 3 main 'Learning Environments'; the HOME, RANGE and COURSE.
Yet, there is only 1 'Performing Environment', the COURSE.
Just yesterday, I witnessed one of these Avid Players in a Lesson
She hit (10) 6-irons into #7 at Meadow Links & Golf Academy, leaving 3 PITCH shots and 7 PUTTS (+3, eh? for 10 'holes').
She then hit (10) 9-irons into #8 , leaving 1 PITCH shot, 2 CHIP shots and 7 PUTTS (+1, eh? for 10 'holes').
She then hit (10) 9-woods into #4, leaving 4 PITCH shots, 1 CHIP shot and 5 PUTTS (+4, eh?)
She then hit (10) Sand Wedges into #5, leaving 8 PITCH shots and 2 PUTTS (+8, eh?)...definitely her poorest 'batch' of 10.
Determined to do better - she then hit a batch of 10 into #5 with her Pitching Wedge, leaving 2 PITCH Shots, 3 CHIPS and 5 PUTTS (+2, eh?)...she was very happy to improve so much on that final 'batch'.
So, add it up and you can see she was +18 for 50 holes. This translates into about 3 76's.
As you can see - this was changing the COURSE from a 'Performing Environment' to a 'Learning Environment'. We were actually working on her Mental Game.
I wanted her to gain more confidence in her Full Swing - by helping her see that she can play some VERY good golf - by being 'less technical' as she sets-up to her shots and simply thinking about the target.
It worked beautifully - I'm very proud of how well she did.
We do this kind of On-Course work all season - it just gets a little easier when we have fewer folks on the COURSE in the WINTER.
I sincerely hope your Winter gives you great GOLF...SUCCESS next Summer.
