Golf - A Timeless, Beautiful Description

I just saw this yesterday in a wonderful article by Noted Golf Course Architect, Michael Hudzan about the beauties of our Game.  He designed the course where the U.S. Amateur Golf Tournament will be played this year, Erin Hills.  He is also responsible for the incredibly pragmatic and effective design of Meadow Links & Golf Academy, where I give S.uggs U.niversity of G.uided G.olf S.uccess Lessons.  Cincinnati Golfers are fortunate to have this 'Top 10 Short Course In America' here in Cincinnati at Winton Woods.

These words about our fantastic 'Golf' are absolutely wondrous, and over 100 years old.

GOLF

It is a science—the study of a lifetime, in which

you may exhaust yourself but never your subject.

It is a contest, a duel or a melee, calling for

courage, skill, strategy and self-control.

It is a test of temper, a trial of honor, a revealer

of character.

It affords a chance to play the man, and act the gentleman.

It means going into God’s out-of-doors, getting

close to nature, fresh air, exercise, a sweeping

away of the mental cobwebs, genuine re-

creation of the tired tissues.

It is a cure for care-an antidote to worry.

It includes companionship with friends, social

intercourse, opportunity for courtesy, kindliness

and generosity to an opponent.

It promotes not only physical health, but

 moral force.

Ryder Cup: Sportsmanship Supreme

To see the virtue and sportsmanship of all the Players and Captains of the Ryder Cup teams sure does make me proud of the 'Gentlemanly/Classy Nature' of our great game.

They compete with all their guts, yet say sincere 'Congratulations' when vanquished.

I simply say 'Congratulations' to both teams - and 'Thank You' for your class, which stands in such stark contrast to the attitudes and actions seen in other Professional Sports.

The considerate, honest and thoughtful spirit of all the great gentleman and ladies of our storied game lives on - in you all.

Golf Etiquette: Good & Bad

   In the future, you will begin to see many Posts about Golf Etiquette.

   In my position - especially because I do so many "Play With the Pro" On-Course Lessons - and watch so many of the Players I help in their Tournament Rounds - I see a lot of 'real golf'.

   I feel very encouraged that so many golfers continue to show great respect and consideration for other Players - and the courses they play on.  The times of bad etiquette are really few and far between.

   In these upcoming Posts - feel free to make any Comments you would like.

   My purpose is to shine a Spotlight on the continuing (and unique) place Golf holds in our Society.  It's the only remaining Sport where Sportsmanship and Kindness are still highly regarded.  And boasting/trash talk, etc...are looked down upon.

   Here's to Golf...The Gentleman's Game.  (and ladies, of course, also)!
